Joanna Gleason will star with husband Chris Sarandon and John Glover in a special benefit reading of My Deah, a new play by John Epperson (The Artist Principally Known as Lypsinka). Directed by Eric Sniedze, the reading will take place at the Manhattan Ensemble Theatre (55 Mercer Street) on Monday, June 27th at 7 PM to benefit the Millenium Theatre Group, the resident theatre company of Manhattan Ensemble Theatre.

Based on Euripides' Medea, My Deah "is a Southern-fried comedy in the manner of an over-baked Hollywood domestic drama. But it turns into a tragedy. She does kill the kids, just as you would expect," stated Epperson.

Gleason currently plays Muriel Eubanks in Dirty Rotten Scoudrels, and received Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for her performance. She won the 1988 Best Actress in a Musical Tony for her Baker's Wife in Into the Woods, and she has also appeared on Broadway in I Love My Wife, Joe Egg, Social Security and Nick & Nora (a show in which Sarandon also performed).

In addition to Nick & Nora, Sarandon's Broadway credits include The Rothschilds, Two Gentlemen of Verona and Censored Scenes from Hong Kong. As a film actor, he has starred in The Nightmare Before Christmas (as the voice of Jack Skellington), Slaves of New York, The Princess Bride, and Dog Day Afternoon (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award). Glover is currently being seen as Anton Kilgallen in the Roundabout production of Jon Robin Baitz's The Paris Letter. Tartuffe, Love! Valour! Compassion, Frankenstein, Design for Living and The Visit are some of his other Broadway credits.

Manhattan Ensemble Theatre members Andy Langton, Margaret Curry, Antony Raymond, Taylor Stockdale, Matt Schuneman, Ryan Knowles and Louis Reyes Cardenas are also featured in the cast of the show.

Epperson has appeared theatrically in I Could Go On Lip-Synching!, The Fabulous Lypsinka Show, Lypsinka! Now It Can Be Lip-Synched, Lypsinka! A Day in the Life (New York Theater Workshop, two Drama Desk nominations including Most Unique Theatrical Experience; revived in 1993 Off- Broadway at The Cherry Lane Theater), Lypsinka Must Be Destroyed!, Lypsinka IS Harriet Craig! (speaking debut), Lypsinka! The Boxed Set (2001 Drama Desk nomination, touring in various cities including Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C., where it received the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Non-Resident Production and a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor, and Los Angeles, where Epperson won a Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Sound Design and the L.A. Weekly Theatre Award for Best Solo Performance) . Last year, Epperson played The Stepmother in the New York City Opera production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella at Lincoln Center's New York State Theater.
