Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom Explores Cheetah-Dog Friendship

"Why doesn't the cheetah eat the dog?" Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom will answer that question when it examines the friendship between a young cheetah and a Labrador retriever at the Dallas Zoo.

Wild Guide Stephanie Arne will tell the story of Winspear, the Dallas Zoo's young cheetah, and Amani, the Labrador retriever who has become its "brother from another mother." Arne will also take an in-depth look at the cheetah, the earth's fastest land mammal.

"It may seem strange at first, but research has shown that cheetahs and dogs can form a close bond that replicates the coalitions male cheetahs would form in the wild. Dogs are comfortable around people, and they help the cheetah feel more comfortable, too," Arne said. "It's heartwarming to know that Winspear and Amani, who have been together since they were tiny, will share a close bond the rest of their lives."

Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom web series kicked off last year as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. The second installment of the Wild Kingdom web series features shorter, more focused videos with a wealth of supporting content as well as unique social media content for Wild Kingdom's Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest communities.
