"Why doesn't the cheetah eat the dog?" Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom will answer that question when it examines the friendship between a young cheetah and a Labrador retriever at the Dallas Zoo.

Wild Guide Stephanie Arne will tell the story of Winspear, the Dallas Zoo's young cheetah, and Amani, the Labrador retriever who has become its "brother from another mother." Arne will also take an in-depth look at the cheetah, the earth's fastest land mammal.

These and other Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom videos can now be viewed at www.WildKingdom.com or on the Wild Kingdom YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/WildKingdomTV).

"It may seem strange at first, but research has shown that cheetahs and dogs can form a close bond that replicates the coalitions male cheetahs would form in the wild. Dogs are comfortable around people, and they help the cheetah feel more comfortable, too," Arne said. "It's heartwarming to know that Winspear and Amani, who have been together since they were tiny, will share a close bond the rest of their lives."

Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom web series kicked off last year as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. The second installment of the Wild Kingdom web series features shorter, more focused videos with a wealth of supporting content as well as unique social media content for Wild Kingdom's Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest communities.

Other topics Wild Kingdom will explore in the second installment of its web series include:

  • The complex and fascinating world of elephants featuring the Fort Worth Zoo's three-generation elephant herd.
  • Giraffes, including their incredible tongue, massive neck, unique behavior and the Dallas Zoo's multi-species savannah habitat.
  • The wonderful and wacky world of penguins, featuring Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo's flock of more than 85 King, Gentoo and Rockhopper penguins.

Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom premiered on network television on Jan. 6, 1963. It pioneered the format of wildlife TV and remains one of the most loved and respected wildlife programs in TV history.
