Malaria No More, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to ending malaria deaths, will host its annual International Honors Gala on Thursday, November 13, 2014 in New York.

The spirited, roof-shaking Afrobeat band and dancers from the Tony award-winning Broadway Show FELA!, Chop and Quench, return to New York City following the show's successful 2012 run for a special performance as part of a gala event hosted by Malaria No More.

The 13-person ensemble is set to perform throughout the evening and culminate in an Afrobeat dance party -- all for the purpose of raising awareness about the disease, which today still claims the life of one child every minute in Africa. Fela Kuti famously sang about malaria and other scourges in Africa in his song Yellow Fever in 1976 -- now, nearly 40 years later Malaria No More and its partners -- including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations -- are working towards the critical goal of eliminating the disease within a generation.

Malaria No More will honor Al Jazeera America with the Media Leader Award for their consistent coverage of malaria as a top global health challenge. Malaria No More will also honor Alere with the Corporate Citizenship Award, for their ongoing support of the organizations campaigns, to help treat cases of malaria in children. There will also be special performances by Chop and Quench the spirited Afrobeat band from the Tony award-winning Broadway show FELA! Additional special performances will be announced.

Guests expected to attend include Ehab Al Shihabi, CEO, Al Jazeera America; Martin Edlund, CEO, Malaria No More; Namal Nawana, CEO, Alere and more.

It all takes place at the Skylight Modern, 537 West 27th Street, New York, NY 10001 on Thursday, November 13, 2014 | 7:00 PM.
