Musicals Tonight!, as part of its Musical Mondays Theatre Lab, will present a sneak preview of two new musicals from the famed BMI workshop. Presented with Bick Goss, Frank Evans, Anne L. Bernstein and Mary Ellen Ashley, The Dogs of Pripyat and See Rock City will be presented at the 45th Street Theatre (354 West 45th St. between 8th and 9th Avenues) on Monday, May 1st, beginning at 6:15 PM.
Based on the play by Leah Napolin,
The Dogs of Pripyat is "a modern fable about hope, survival, and the triumph of the spirit under the most unimaginable of circumstances. Set near the nuclear explosion in Chernobyl, a young terrier goes from life as an abandoned pet to alpha male," according to production notes. The show features music by Aron Accurso and lyrics by
Jill Abramovitz.
See Rock City is "a 20-minute musical drawn from a full-length collection of short musicals exploring the complexities of modern romantic relationships, each set at a different tourist destination across America. Jess has been on the road searching for his place in the world...until he sees the signs painted on the roofs of the old red barns and follows their command to 'See Rock City.' That show boasts music by Brad Alexander and book and lyrics by Adam Mathias.
Next in the Musical Mondays/BMI Workshop Series will be
The Tragic and Horrible Life of The Singing Nun, with music and lyrics by Andy Monroe and book and additional lyrics by Blair Fell. That show will be presented on Monday, May 15th at 6:15 PM.
