Musical Theatre Factory (MTF) will present a development reading of JUNK: A ROCK OPERA, with music and lyrics by Brainpool with book and additional lyrics by Shakina Nayfack.

The Swedish pop band Brainpool-Christoffer Lundquist (vocals, bass), David Birde (lyrics, guitar) and Jens Jansson (drums)-originally released JUNK - A ROCK OPERA as a double-disc concept album on Playground Records in 2004. The show premiered in concert with the Malmö Symphonic Orchestra in Sweden in 2005, and is currently being developed for theatrical production with director, and MTF Founding Artistic Director, Shakina Nayfack, who has also worked with the band to expand the libretto and score since its 2007 Los Angeles workshop and wrote the book and additional lyrics for the MTF premiere.

Junk takes place in a near-future urban wasteland run by Junk Incorporated. Anna, a Junk employee, dreams of starting a revolution with her all-girl rock band, the MetroJets. Her ambitions are thwarted when she finds herself caught in a dangerous triangle between her boss, who owns the last nightclub in the city, and the office janitor, who wants to help her escape the drudges of corporate life.

The cast features Mary Kate Morrissey (The Disappearing Man, Lizzie) Cicily Daniels (The Little Mermaid), Daniel Luis Domenech (Rock of Ages), Kate Loprest (First Date), , Brian Charles Rooney (Bedbugs! The Musical) Chris Gleim, Tamara Young, Michael Linden, Thomas Green, Kimber Benedict, Katie Homer, Adam Lendermon, KC Fredericks, Dan Gutierrez

Shakina Nayfack is Directing, with choreography by Sidney Erik Wright. Jeremy Robin Lyons is Music Directing.

JUNK takes place April 6 at 8pm and has a $12 suggested donation at the door. $10 advance reservations can be made at http://mtf.nyc/events/junk-a-rock-opera/.
