THE ARTISTS SHOWCASE SERIES is pleased to present MUSIC AND LYRICS BY, an evening of new and emerging composers and lyricists, at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, at Makor, 35 West 67th Street, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.  Tickets are $15 and can be ordered online under "Theatre" at www.makor.org or by calling (212) 601-1000.  The Artists Showcase Series' portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to DIRECT RELIEF INTERNATIONAL'S TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORT (www.directrelief.org).

Hosted by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Julie Gold (Bette Midler's "From a Distance") and featuring performances by Mary Testa (TV's "Whoopi", Marie Christine, 42nd Street, On The Town) Stephanie J. Block (The Boy From Oz, Elphaba in the upcoming tour of Wicked), Lisa Brescia (Aida), Adam Fleming (Bare, Hairspray) and Jessica-Snow Wilson (Little Shop of Horrors, Good Vibrations, Les Misérables), among others, MUSIC AND LYRICS BY will showcase the work of:

Scott Alan The best of Broadway have performed Scott Alan's tunes.  Everyone from Liz Callaway to Billy Porter to Stephanie J. Block to Shoshana BeanScott Alan is currently putting the finishing touches on his new Broadway Bound Musical 'Piece' which was first present through the Artist Showcase Series.  For more information, visit www.scottalan.net

Leslie Becker, an accomplished Broadway actress (Nine, Showboat, Beauty and the Beast) and founder of The Musical Writers Playground, who has written songs for Broadway performers like Mark Kudisch, Kerry Butler and Barbara Walsh and lyrics for the musicals Swept Away!, Here We Are and Fetching Water;

Eli Bolin AND Sam Forman, whose first musical, I Sing, received a commercial production in 2001 and ran Off-Broadway for four months;

twenty-one-year-old Brian Lowdermilk, whose musical, The Woman Upstairs, was recently presented as part of the first New York Musical Theatre Festival where it starred Alison Fraser and Kate Shindle;

and MATTHEW STAMM, the former front man for Miami band The Perfect Candidates, who has performed
around NYC at Lion's Den, The Bitter End and Makor.

THE ARTISTS SHOWCASE SERIES was created by producer Geoffrey Soffer to present readings of plays and musicals, as well as concerts featuring stars of Broadway, cabaret, TV and film.  Proceeds from all events are donated to a charity chosen by the artists involved. During the past year, The Artists Showcase Series has presented wonderful programs including a reading of Suicide Weather a new play by Avenue Q's Tony winner Jeff Whitty starring Debra Monk and Dennis Boutsikaris, a reading of a new musical, Easter Rising  by Michael Arden starring Gavin Creel and Eden Espinosa, An Evening with Julie Gold (Grammy Winning songwriter of "From A Distance"), a screening of "Broadway The Golden Age" followed by a panel discussion with Jerry Mitchell, Anita Gillette, Don Pippin, Gavin Creel, and Michael Mastro, The Broadway Kitchen Sink, a standing room only concert featuring Victoria Clark, Anthony Rapp, Anita Gillette, Matt Morrison, Don Stephenson, Emily Loesser, Sarah Uriarte, Jessica Stone, and others.  For more information, please visit http://www.showcaseseries.org/
