Museum of the Moving Image Hosts WAY, WAY BACK Screening with Nat Faxon, Jim Rash & More Today

Museum of the Moving Image will present a preview screening of The Way, Way Back, the eagerly anticipated summer comedy from Fox Searchlight, tonight, June 27, at 7:00 p.m. Following the screening, directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (the team that won an Oscar for writingThe Descendants), and the film's stars Liam James and Sam Rockwell will participate in a discussion with Chief Curator David Schwartz. The film, which opens in theaters July 5, also features Steve Carell, Allison Janney, Zoe Levin, and Toni Collette.

The Way, Way Back (2013, 103 mins. Rated PG-13) is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan's (James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Carell) , and his daughter, Steph (Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverTed Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world-all during a summer he will never forget. The writing/directing team of Nat Faxon and Jim Rash are also known for their comic acting; Faxon starred in the Fox series Ben and Kate, and Rash stars as Dean Felton on the NBC series Community.

The screening of The Way, Way Back is the highlight of the Museum's series Coming of Age Comedies: The Summer Edition, which included The Goonies (1985) and Meatballs (1975). The series finale will be The Sandlot (1993), screening on Saturday, June 29, 1:00 p.m.
