Museum Of Natural History Continues ONE STEP BEYOND with A Celebration Of Bay Area Hip-Hop

The American Museum of Natural History's One Step Beyond on Friday, February 23, celebrates California's Bay Area hip-hop culture with DJs from the region, DJ D Sharp, DJ Mind Motion, and Tap. 10, hosted by bay area native Sway Calloway (MTV/SiriusXM). From hip-hop's beginnings to its current status as a cultural behemoth, the Bay Area has contributed mightily to the art form and its global influence, producing icons such as E-40, 2 Pac, Mac Dre, and groups like Hieroglyphics, Quannum, and The Heartbreak Gang. The Bay Area continues to be a key part of today's global hip-hop community, and this event is a celebration of its many musical contributions. The event will take place in the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Hall of the Universe.

At this ongoing party series, guests can dance in the Museum's Rose Center for Earth and Space to the sounds of the biggest names in techno, electronica, hip-hop, and indie rock. Guests can also enjoy the Hayden Big Bang Theater, located in the lower part of the Hayden Sphere, which features a dynamic multimedia presentation, narrated by acclaimed actor Liam Neeson, that takes visitors on a thrilling four-minute trip from Earth to the edge of the visible universe.

DJ D Sharp
DJ D Sharp's melodic congruence is boosted by his Oakland influence. He has performed around the world, from Rome to Rio and Manila to Madrid for Fortune 500 companies, foreign dignitaries, at the hottest venues in the world, and even President Barack Obama. Now, as the official DJ of reigning Western Conference Champion's the Golden State Warriors, D Sharp raises the decibel levels at the infamous Oracle Arena.

DJ Mind Motion
DJ Mind Motion of the legendary Pirate DJs has been "Rockin' The Party" for nearly 20 years in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. From his early start breakdancing with the Mind Motion Crew in the early '80s, to moving the crowd with his brother DJ EFX, Mind Motion was destined to become a hip-hop and DJ pioneer. He picked up his first turntables when he was 13 years old, and soon after started playing house parties, birthdays, and weddings, then moved to bigger and broader audiences of schools and big hall dances. Now, Mind Motion is a founder and member of the "Pirate DJs" crew and currently the resident DJ for Chuy Gomez in the afternoon drive on Hot 105.7 from 3 to 7pm.

TAP.10
TAP.10 started recording local radio mix shows before he even owned turntables, and later studied the mix techniques of Wake-Up Show soundman DJ Revolution, Invisibl Skratch Piklz' DJ Shortkut, and Beat Junkies own J. Rocc, incorporating their technical wizardry and effortless crowd control into his sets. TAP.10 has performed in many cities across the country, including Las Vegas, Austin, Denver, Miami, Orlando, New York, and Los Angeles. When he is not performing in other cities, TAP.10 DJ's at his New York party residencies, handles artists and repertoire for the Bay Area Music Collective, Honor Roll, and works with fellow Honor Roll members Trackademicks and 1-O.A.K.

Sway Calloway (Host)
Sway Calloway began his career releasing music with his longtime music partner, King Tech, together creating The Wake Up Show heard on the radio all over the world. He serves as an executive producer and news correspondent for VH1 and has been one of MTV's fixtures, covering news and entertainment on shows like Total Request Live (TRL), All Eyez, and RapFix Live. He has covered the EMA's (European Music Awards) red carpet. Sway has also hosted various international b-boy competitions with Red Bull such as the Battle of the Year, Just Deboute, and The Red Bull World Finals Dance Competition. He is an ambassador for the Get Schooled Initiative, which visits children in schools around the country stressing the importance of education and graduation from high school. Sway has also acted on television including Luke Cage and Empire and can be heard weekdays on satellite radio's SiriusXM Shade45 Sway in the Morning show.

Admission to One Step Beyond is $26 in advance, $30 on the day of the show. Guests must be 21 or older and present valid ID. A beer and wine cash bar is available. Advance purchase is recommended. Tickets may be available at the door.
