This January 10-13 Mundial Montreal will present 3 showcases during APAP, featuring artists delivering incredible performances from Inuit throat singing to virtuosic gypsy brass, a cappella harmonies to electronically modified tablas, furious fiddles and soulful, heartbreaking melodies.
Mundial's APAP 2014 showcases will feature 7 powerful world music artists from across Canada: celebrated Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq; Chadian a capella phenoms H'Sao; passionate, intimate and multilingual singer-songwriter Alejandra Ribera; world-renowned fusion artist Gurpreet Chanaaka "The Tabla Guy"; innovative violinist Jaron Freeman-Fox; soulful Dene (First Nations) singer-songwriter Leela Gilday; playful and cinematic gypsy group Sagapool.
In three years of presenting at APAP, Mundial has found a home-away-from-home at East Village's Drom (85 Ave A b/w 5th & 6th Sts), where conference attendees and the public have the opportunity to experience a full night of free music on Friday, January 10. Mundial artists then take to the stage at two special APAP showcases on Sunday, January 12 at the Midtown Hilton (1335 6th Ave), and on Monday, January 13 at Le Poisson Rouge(158 Bleecker St).
Mundial will kick off its presence at APAP with a cocktail reception on Friday, January 10 presented in collaboration with Native America North at Drom, at 6:30 PM just before the showcases. A free shuttle service will be offered to ferry guests from the Midtown Hilton (1335 6th Ave) at 7:10pm, the Faces & Names Bar (159 W. 54th St.) at 7:15pm, and Rockefeller Plaza (1 Rockefeller Plaza) at 7:25pm to the event.
