Mullally, Mirren, Danner, Etc. Among Emmy Award Winners

The 58th Annual Emmy Awards were announced in a ceremony that, as hosted by Conan O'Brien, aired on Sunday, August 27th on NBC. Among the winners were theatre veterans such as Megan Mullally, Blythe Danner and Helen Mirren.

Alan Alda, last seen on Broadway in Glengarry Glen Ross, picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in "The West Wing." Danner, whose Broadway credits include Follies and A Streetcar Named Desire, won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work in "Huff."

Jeremy Piven, who starred Off-Broadway in Fat Pig, won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for "Entourage," while Tony Shalboub (Conversations with My Father, The Heidi Chronicles) was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on "Monk."

Mullally, who has appeared in How to Succeed Without Really Trying and Grease, was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, while Mirren, who was last on Broadway in The Dance of Death, won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for her turn in the title role of "Elizabeth I." Jeremy Irons, a Tony Award-winner for The Real Thing, received the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his work in the same TV film.

Barry Manilow, the pop star whose musicals include Harmony and Copacabana, won the Emmy for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program for "Barry Manilow: Music and Passion." Also nominated in that category was Hugh Jackman, who hosted the 59th Annual Tony Awards.
