The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden invites New Yorkers to spend Halloween with the author of "The Raven" himself, poet Edgar Allan Poe. While the real Poe passed away in 1849, his spirit will be channeled for three nights in late October as acclaimed actor Kevin Mitchell Martin presents An Evening with Poe, a one-man play based on Poe's life and writings. From Wednesday, October 19th through Friday, October 31st at 6:15 and 8:00 PM each night, Martin will conjure up Old New York spirits with bone-chilling readings of Poe's letters and stories. An Evening with Poe is appropriate for children age 10 and older.
Tickets are $18 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. Reservations are required and can be made at 212.838.6878. The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden is located at 421 East 61st Street between York and First Avenues. Nearest subway: N, W, R, 4, 5, 6 at the 59th Street/Lexington station.
ABOUT THE MOUNT VERNON HOTEL MUSEUM & GARDEN
The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden is dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition and research of art and artifacts pertaining to the Mount Vernon Hotel. The Museum takes visitors back to the days when midtown Manhattan was a country escape for New Yorkers living in a crowded city at the southern tip of the island. New York City's only surviving day hotel, this landmarked building, which was constructed in 1799, brings the bygone era of old New York alive by promoting the dissemination of historical knowledge through docent-guided tours of its historic rooms, education programs, exhibitions, publications, lectures and symposia.
