Gazeta reports that Moscow's Pushkinskiy cinema's Karo Film has signed a deal with Stage Entertainment theatre company for the building to be turned into a venue for live theatre. The cinema will rent the building out for musicals and will form a theater block with nearby theaters.
Along with the change in genre and use, the cinema will return to its original name, Rossiya. The building changed names to Pushkinskiy in 1997. Those behind the changes hope Rossiya will becoe the center of a new "Moscow Broadway."
Workers at the theater confirmed that the changes do not come with a buy/sell deal.
According to Gazeta, "Stage Entertainment specializes in staging musicals. Till now they were staged at the Moscow international youth house on Komsomolskiy prospect."
