Some of the brightest young voices of Broadway and jazz will perform in
Jammin’ for Godot, a benefit evening of jazz at the Culture Project, 45
Bleecker Street on Monday January 16th at 8PM. The performance
supports FourScore Productions, a new nonprofit theater.
Epic
recording artist Jane Monheit, regarded as one of the fastest-rising
stars in the jazz community, will be joined by Matthew Morrison (Tony-nominated for The Light in the Piazza, co-star of the original cast of
Hairspray and ABC’s "Once Upon a Mattress" with Carol Burnett and Tracey
Ullman). Also appearing will be Jenn Gambatese (just cast to star as
Jane in Disney’s upcoming production of Tarzan), Kingsley Leggs (The
Color Purple), Lauren Molina (Johanna in Sweeney Todd), Brian Charles
Rooney (The Roundabout’s upcoming Threepenny Opera), Elena Shaddow (The
Woman in White) and Exit 59 (the jazz combo recently recorded with
noted poet Frank Reeve). The evening will be emceed by Jewtopia’s
Michael Carbonaro.
Funds from this benefit evening will help
underwrite FourScore’s Godot Has Left the Building, a new play by John
Griffin that captures the spirit of Beckett’s masterpiece while posing
new questions in the context of modern issues. Its world premiere at
the Lex Theatre in Los Angeles was described by the Los Angeles Times
as “cheeky and fresh” and “get(s) audiences thinking about those pesky,
eternal questions Beckett posed.” It will debut in New York at The
Culture Project in June.
