A Broadway run for the acclaimed London revival of Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten, starring Kevin Spacey, has been confirmed.
The Associated Press reports that the production, directed by Howard Davies, will open at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 9th, 2007 after beginning previews on March 29th. A Moon for the Misbegotten will star all three of its London leads--Colm Meaney and Eve Best, as well as Spacey.
A Moon for the Misbegotten opened at the Old Vic on September 26th, after beginning previews on September 15th. It runs through December 23rd. The play, which concerns the romance between quick-witted farmer's daughter Josie Hogan and alcoholic third-rate actor Jim Tyrone, garnered much acclaim upon opening--even from critics who had previously been skeptical of Spacey's work as the Old Vic's artistic director. The actor also won raves for his performance as Tyrone.
Davies previously directed Spacey--who has won two Oscars for American Beauty and The Usual Suspects--in an acclaimed 1999 revival of O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh.
Spacey is a theatre veteran who was nominated as Best Actor in a Play for his performance in the 1999 revival of O'Neill's Iceman Cometh; he won Best Featured Actor in a Play for 1991's Lost in Yonkers. Other Broadway credits include Long Day's Journey Into Night, the original production of Hurlyburly (in which he was a replacement) and Ghosts, as well the Old Vic's The Philadelphia Story. His many other films include Superman Returns, Beyond the Sea, The Shipping News, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and Working Girl.
Meaney, who is best known for his work as Miles O'Brien on TV's "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," was for a time a member of the Irish National Theatre and also appeared on London stages in the Donmar Warehouse's Juno and the Paycock. Other TV and film credits include "Stargate: Atlantis," Layer Cake, Intermission, Mystery, Alaska, Claire Dolan, The Road to Welville, "Scarlett," The Last of the Mohicans and Dick Tracy.
Best's other West End credits include Mourning Becomes Electra (directed by Davies) and 'Tis Pity She's a Whore. She was seen in Hedda Gabler at the Almeida and then in its tranfer at the Duke of York's Theatre.
