The Monteux School will present two showcase concerts in New York City on Friday January 4 and Saturday January 5 at the Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church next to Lincoln Center, 152 W 66th Street, New York City.
The Monteux School for orchestra conductors, founded by the legendary Pierre Monteux in 1943, offers summer sessions in Maine. Music Director Michael Jinbo and guest conductors will perform two programs at the 135-year-old historic church. The Friday evening concert features the Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto no. 2 with noted pianist Christopher Johnson; the Bach Brandenburg Concerto no. 4 with violinist Uli Speth and flutists Allison Kiger and Marisela Sager ; the Haydn Overture Il mondo della luna,; Andante quasi recitativo by Elfrida Andrée; Concentus Brevis by Matilde Capuis; and Copland Appalachian Spring for 13 instruments. The guest conductors include David Alexander Rahbee, Michael Shane Wittenburg, and Rueben Blundell. Saturday's concert will include Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 and Brahms' Serenade No. 1.
Both concerts begin at 7:30 and tickets will be sold only at the door for $25; students are admitted for free with ID.
