Infinito Gallery is hosting the ReVerb Dance Gallery Festival this weekend on Saturday, April 30 from 3 PM to 10 PM.
Joe Monteleone and Shelley White of Monteleone Dance are among the lineup, performing "Sterility," a long endurance installation piece where they sit in an intricately constructed, all-white landscape of their own making.
Here, passers-by may offer them any objects to be painted white and added, for a time, to the installation. The potency of concentration eerily contrasts the complacency of the two committed bodies, poignantly evoking the relationship between individual and system. With the many white-painted objects in their space (trains, army men, buildings, benches), the work invites political undertones while oddly remains meditative and even hypnotic. The performers only leave this white sanctuary to privately read a mysterious text to a viewer.
