The West Bank Café has announced the August, 2006 line-up of live entertainment, to be presented in The Laurie Beechman Theatre. The West Bank Café is located at 407 West 42nd. St., at Ninth Avenue.
On Fridays, August 4, 11, 18 at 7pm, the theatre will host

Scott Coulter/Tim DiPasqua in "Southern Comfort." "Award-winning singers
Tom Andersen,
Scott Coulter and Tim Di Pasqua will star in 'Southern Comfort: A Down-Home Country Music Jamboree.' Backed by a first-rate four-piece band, they'll be performing classic country tunes from the 1940s, all the way up to the hottest contemporary hits. The show includes George Jones' 'He Stopped Loving Her Today,' Charlie Pride's 'Behind Closed Doors,' k.d. lang's 'Full Moon Full of Love' and Alan Jackson's 'Remember When.' Other toe-tapping tunes in the mix will be chart-toppers by
Glen Campbell, Vince Gill, Patti Loveless and Randy Travis," state press notes. There is a $25 cover.
On Sundays, August 6, 13, 20, 27 at 7pm, Lisa Asher will debut a brand new show: "Stranded in the Moonlight: The Music of Michael
Peter Smith," an eclectic collection of music, written by one of
Chicago's most esteemed musical voices. There is an $18 cover.
On Monday, August 7 at 7pm,
Steve Marzullo celebrated composer
Steve Marzullo ('I Hid My Love,' 'Somedays') will bring a brand new collection of his music to the Laurie Beechman, featuring a stellar cast including Broadway's Judy Blazer (
Titanic),
Terri Klausner (
Evita) and Sally Wilfert (
Assassins), as well as electric vocalists
Suzanne Fiore and Rachel Ulanet. There is a $16 cover.
On Friday, August 11 at 9pm, pianist/vocalist Mark Nadler will revive his critically-acclaimed show, "Tschaikowsky (and Other Russians)," at The Beechman, for one night only. There is a $35 cover.
On August 13 & 20 at 9pm, and August 14 at 7pm, Bob Barth will perform "Innocent Man." "Join Bob as he takes you from growing up to falling in love in this rocking and rollicking night of fun. Bob's show features a wide variety of great music (
David Bowie,
Alan Menken, Clarence Carter) and hysterical, personal stories, woven together to form an eclectic evening of music and theatre." There is an $11 cover.
On Monday, August 14 at 9:30pm, recording artist Kirk Detweiler will take the stage. "Kirk Detweiler, aka randomwhiteboy, is celebrating the release of his CD, shades of wrong, in a one night only performance. With a kick-a** band led by Jeff Waxman (who also produced the CD), Kirk will rock out on original tunes, a few covers and several terrific songs by New York favorite

On Sunday, August 20 at 4pm, Barbara Brussell will take center stage. "Critically-heralded for her thrilling vocals and remarkable storytelling ability, vocalist Barbara Brussell kicks off our new brunch series." It is $45 for brunch and show, and $20 for show only.
On Monday, August 21st, up and coming young composer
Scott Alan will debut his latest work, as well as favorites from his various musical projects, including the forthcoming
Piece. There is a $10 cover.
On Sunday, August 27 at 4pm, Marcus Simeone will perform. "Acclaimed vocalist Marcus Simeone continues our brunch series with his gorgeous tenor voice that been compared to Johnny Mathis." It is $45 for brunch and show, and $20 for show only.
On Sunday, August 27 at 9:30pm,
Lauren Molina will treat audiences to her show. "Molina, currently starring as Johanna in the hit Broadway revival of
Sweeney Todd, brings her solo cabaret turn to our stage for one night only." There is a $15 cover.
Every Friday at 10:30pm, 'The After Party' will be held. "We continue our weekly open-mic schmoozefest for the theatrically inclined, hosted by iron-lunged
Brandon Cutrell and Alysha Umpress, with Sarajean Devenport behind the bar, and
Ray Fellman at the keys. Come hang and belt out a showtune or two." There is no cover, no minimum.
"The Laurie Beechman Theatre has a rich tradition of presenting
cutting-edge work, which has played a role in shaping American theatre
and live performance. Since the 80's, the theatre has staged numerous
plays and hosted a myriad of live performance events. A young Lewis
Black was named playwright-in-residence; Howard Stern aired his
third-annual live birthday broadcast from the theater; and the
restaurant's regulars have included Tennessee Williams,
Arthur Miller
and Bruce Willis, among others. Other artists who have called the
theatre home include actress
Alison Fraser, composer Rusty McGee and
rock band The Who, who gave four live performances in the theatre while
their musical, Tommy, was running on Broadway."
