MoMA Features Works of Mark Boulos et al. as Part of Modern Film Series in March

The Museum of Modern Art's Modern Mondays is a program that brings contemporary, innovative film and moving-image works to the public and provides a forum for viewers to engage in dialogue and debate with contemporary filmmakers and artists. Modern Mondays presents new-and newly rediscovered-film and media works with the director in attendance, stimulating discourse, dialogue and interaction in a social setting.

An Evening with A.K. Burns and A.L. Steiner
March 12, 7 p.m.
This evening will present COMMUNITY ACTION CENTER (2010), a recent MoMA acquisition that is a picaresque, exuberant, and explicit filmic account of consensual, and often public, sexual encounters exploring gender, lust and tenderness. The filmmakers-A.L. Steiner (American, b. 1967), an artist known for her photo-collages, and her involvement with the band Chicks on Speed and the curatorial group Ridykelous; and A.K. Burns (American, b. 1975), a multidisciplinary artist and cofounder of Working Artists and the Greater Economy (W.A.G.E.)-have created a non-narrative, transgressive document of a group of friends who act upon, and into, one another. The dialogue-free film features an original musical score as scintillating as its images. Both artists will be present; this event is organized by Laurence Kardish, senior curator, Department of Film.

An Evening with Mark Boulos
March 19, 7 p.m.
In conjunction with the exhibition PROJECTS 97: MARK BOULOS, artist and filmmaker Mark Boulos (American, b. 1975), will discuss his practice. Boulos's work explores beliefs that are held with such transcendent fervor that they are capable of transforming one's perception of the world. Focusing on political and religious conviction, he investigates the processes through which ideas take material form in day-to-day society. Using this approach, Boulos has conducted firsthand research by observing such radical political organizations as the Philippine revolutionary New People's Army and the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND). Boulos's experience living with MEND, who fight the exploitation of the Niger Delta by large oil corporations, is explored in his video installation All That Is Solid Melts into Air (2008), which will be on view in MoMA's Projects gallery March 19 through July 16, 2012. This event is organized by Stephanie Weber, curatorial assistant, Department of Media and Performance Art.

Tickets are $12 adults; $10 seniors, 65 years and over with I.D.; $8 full–time students with current I.D. (for admittance to film programs only). The price of a film ticket may be applied toward the price of a Museum admission ticket when a film ticket stub is presented at the Lobby Information Desk within 30 days of the date on the stub (does not apply during Target Free Friday Nights, 4–8 p.m.). Admission is free for museum members and for museum ticketholders.
