The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Design Store is excited to announce its first installation and pop-up shop during the week of Art Basel Miami Beach with The Skateroom at Delano, a Morgans Hotel Group (NASDAQ:MHGC) property celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The three entities will create an immersive installation throughout the legendary property with the exclusive, limited edition series of skate decks featuring artwork by Andy Warhol, made in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
The skate decks will be displayed at Delano from November 30th to December 6th. This includes a deluxe set of 32 unique decks featuring Andy Warhol's 32 Campbell's Soup Cans, a set of 8 decks with the pop icon Colored Campbell's Soup Cans, and triptychs with Gold Marilyn Monroe, Guns, Car Crash, Self Portrait and Detail of the Last Supper.
The skate decks will be available for purchase, though in very limited quantities. A percentage of proceeds from the sales will be donated in support of The Skateroom's non-profit partner, Skateistan, an international NGO initiative that empowers children in third-world countries through skateboarding and education.
"32 Campbell's Soup Cans and Gold Marilyn Monroe are artworks in MoMA's collection. The quality of the reproduction of the artwork on all the skate decks is exceptional and is sure to excite art enthusiasts. As the exclusive retailer, we're proud to partner with Delano and The Skateroom to unveil this exciting collection," said Emmanuel Plat, Director of Merchandising, MoMA Design Store.
JP Oliver, Regional Vice President, Morgans Hotel Group, adds, "This is a time of year when Miami and South Beach come to life with creativity and inspirational art expression. When Delano opened in South Beach 20 years ago, we were the art. Today we could not think of a more befitting partner than the MoMA Design Store and The Skateroom to unveil these powerful, accessible and thoroughly contemporary pieces."
"The Foundation is proud to continue Warhol's tradition of collaborating with creative leaders whom challenge convention," said Michael Dayton Hermann, Director of Licensing, The Andy Warhol Foundation. "MoMA Design Store's presentation of The Skateroom at Delano South Beach is a fitting celebration of the artist's enduring influence."
To celebrate the launch, Delano will host a private party for the MoMA Design Store and The Skateroom installation and pop-up shop the evening of Wednesday, December 2nd, 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
