Coming Soon to Broadway--featuring songs from six new musicals--on May 22nd.
As the title indicates, the evening will feature top musical theatre talent performing songs from Broadway-bound musicals--
Marc Shaiman,
Scott Wittman and
Terrence McNally's
Catch Me If You Can, based on the recent Steven Speilberg caper, Larry O'Keefe,
Nell Benjamin and Heather Hach-Hearne's
Legally Blonde, based on the hit
Reese Witherspoon comedy,
David Zippel, the late
Wendy Wasserstein and
Cy Coleman's
Pamela's First Musical, based on Wasserstein's childrens book, Matthew Wilder,
David Zippel and Cheri and Bill Steinkellner's
Princesses, about a group of schoolgirls who stage a production of
A Little Princess, Lynn Ahrens and
Stephen Flaherty's
The Glorious Ones, based on Francine Prose's novel about commedia dell'arte actors, and
Richard Maltby Jr., Janet Brenner and Ken Levin's
The 60's Project.
After 6 PM cocktails and dinner, the show will begin at 8 PM.
Laura Bell Bundy (
Hairspray) and the
Legally Blonde ensemble will perform that musical's "So Much Better," Tony Award-winner
Debbie Gravitte (
Jerome Robbins' Broadway) will sing "The Broadway Song" from
Pamela's First Musical, and
David Garrison (
Wicked, Bells Are Ringing) will perform "I Know What I Like" from
Princesses.
Tony Award-winner Mitchell (
Man of La Mancha, Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime) and Mazzie (
Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime, Passion) will treat the audience a preview of
The Glorious Ones. Lesley Gore will sing "It's My Party" and "You Don't Own Me" and
Lois Robbins will perform "Forever Young;" those songs are included in
The 60s Project. "Fifty Checks" from
Catch Me If You Can will be sung by a surprise guest, while Tony Award-winner Prince (
Bells Are Ringing, Guys and Dolls) will sing
Gypsy's "Everything's Coming Up Roses" at the end of the evening, which will be produced and directed by Jeffrey Martin and John Koner, with musical direction by Robert Billig. Russell Reich is the show's writer. A 9:30 PM desert reception will follow the performance.
