The Mimesis Ensemble presents "All Roads Do Not Lead Forward," a program featuring the NYC Premiere of Mohammed Fairouz's Sadat, a Ballet in 5 Scenes for Chamber Orchestra.

The program will open with Igor Stravinsky's monumental piece, Concerto in Eb Major, "Dumbarton Oaks," followed by Fairouz's Sadat, a work composed for similar instrumentation to Stravinsky's piece. The second half of the concert opens with Osvaldo Golijov's Last Round for string ensemble, a piece composed shortly after the death of Astor Piazzolla, and intended to be 'an imaginary chance for Piazzolla's spirit to fight one more time.'

The concert closes with J.S. Bach's Concerto No. 1 in D minor, BWV 1052, following a concert filled with music that has come out of the tradition of Bach. As the title suggests, all roads do not lead forward, and this concert, presented by an ensemble dedicated to music of the 20th and 21st centuries, illuminates the music of Bach in a unique way by presenting this concerto at the end of the performance.

The concert is Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 7:30 pm, at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Tickets are $25 general admission and $7 for students. The Mimesis Ensemble (www.mimesisensemble.org) is a New York City based ensemble dedicated to performing 20th and 21st century music. Founded in 2008 by pianist Katie Reimer, Mimesis has performed at venues including Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Symphony Space, the Miller Theatre at Columbia University, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall.

Mimesis released their debut CD on Bridge Records, featuring Mohammed Fairouz's opera, Sumeida's Song, for orchestra and 4 singers. This recording was chosen by Opera News for their "Dazzling Dozen" releases of 2013.

Fostering close relationships with the composers they program, musicians are often coached and/or conducted by the composers themselves. The ensemble has worked directly with Martin Bresnick, Caleb Burhans, Patrick Burke, Anna Clyne, Richard Danielpour, Alexandra du Bois, Halim El-Dabh, Alexandra du Bois, Mohammed Fairouz, Judd Greenstein, David Lang, David T. Little, David Ludwig, Nico Muhly, Tobias Picker, Paola Prestini, Ned Rorem, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Huang Ruo, Gunther Schuller, Sarah Kirkland Snider, and Yehudi Wyner.
