Mitchell Walker and AKA Studio Productions (The Dodgers, Photo Op) produce a reading of "Mill Fire" by Sally Nemeth on May 1st, 2017 at Alchemical Theatre Laboratory, NYC.

Director Mitchell Walker, (Birthday Boy, SO GOOD, A Brass Act) brings this stunning story of the south to life in a new reading. "I wanted to bring this play into the present and get to the core of the story and its very poetic characters," Walker said. "This play has lived with me for awhile and I feel like it's time is now, especially in our present cultural and social environments." This is first read of the play with the intention of a full Off-Broadway production.

"The mysterious causes and devastating effects of a steel mill explosion are seen through the eyes of a defiant young widow. "It's a straightforward enough story, but Nemeth tells it in a way that stunningly recapitulates the crazy-quilt patterns of memory. Creating a collage of time, sensation, inner thought and overt action, she twists the past and the present so that the intensity of pleasure, pain and loss becomes truly excruciating. And in the process, she reminds us of how ephemeral life is, and how crucially important each minute should be, though, of course, never can be." -Hedy Weiss, Sun-Times (Chicago) "MILL FIRE is a tense, brooding piece, a cross between a thriller, a social documentary and a requiem." -Hugo Williams, The Times (London)"

Leading the cast is Mac Award Winner, Michelle Dowdy (Hairspray) as Marlene, Ashley Kate Adams (La Cage Aux Follies, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Sunny, James Scheider (Million Dollar Quartet) as Champ and Patrick Cannon (Travel Channel's Mysteries at the Museum) as Bo. Supporting characters will be played by Jason Veasey (Broadway BounTy Hunter) as Jemison, and Callum Adams (Showtime's Episodes) as the Minister.

The Widows will be played by TarA Martinez, 3 time Mac Award Winner Tommy J. Dose, and Kyla Walker (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
