Developed with and directed by Obie Award winner David Drake, who is best known as the creator of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me, one of the longest-running solo shows in New York theater history, and back by his virtuosic band and a pair of sensational singers, Anggelo creates a kaleidoscope of vocal theatrics and poetic storytelling that is hilarious and touching in equal measure.
Through his original compositions and reinterpretations of Latin, folk, and pop classics, I, Inmigrante deftly explores the very personal themes of immigration, national pride, the barriers of language, the emotional ramifications of political dictatorship, and the dreams of the artist who must follow his passion (while wrestling with his demons) in order to find a place he can call home. Original compositions include songs from his newly released album, La Casa Azul, include: "Inmigrantes," an anthem of hope for all; "La Casa Azul," a pop mariachi narrative of Mexican painter and iconic artist Frida Kahlo; and "Libre", an upbeat song about freedom and liberty.
