Jazz band, The Microscopic Septet, are using the arts funding resource, http://www.kickstarter.com/ to fund the production of their new CD, "Friday The 13th: The Micros Play Monk". Five days remain in achieving their fundraising goal (ends 4/25).
The seminal jazz composer and pianist Thelonious Monk has always been a figure who loomed above the Microscopic Septet, like a patron saint or an unhealthy obsession. Both Micros composers have been inspired by his harmony, his rhythm, his humor and his grace, and have played his music from the inception of the band. Although they have always played it at gigs, this is the first time for The Septet to record it. Additionally, they have decided to write new arrangements and record an entire CD of Monk's tunes.
A range "awards" are offered for different levels of donation (all include a signed copy of the CD, and a credit in the liner notes). These range from other CDs, including a "mystery CD" of unreleased Micros-related material, out-of-print LPs, a blues written in your name, or a private performance.
