The South Wales Evening Post is reporting that actor Michael Sheen is set to return to the West End stage next year.
Sheen will be starring in ‘Inadmissible Evidence‘ for what is described as a four-month run. Michael Sheen will take on the role of William Maitland, a middle-aged English solicitor who has come to hate his life.
The role will mark Sheen's return to the West End just three years after starring in the stage version of Frost/Nixon at the Gielgud Theatre in 2006.
Inadmissible Evidence was first staged in London in 1964, with Nicol Williamson as Maitland, who won a Tony award for his performance when it transferred to Broadway. In 1968 it was made into a film, which also starred Eileen Atkins reports the Post.
Rehearsals for the play are set to begin in January, with the opening night set for February. A theatre it still to be announced.
Summit Entertainment has tapped Sheen for the sequel "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which has begun shooting in Vancouver. Michael Sheen who is best known for his roles in "Frost/Nixon" and "The Queen," will portray the leader of the Volturi, an Italy-based coven of vampires, in the "Twilight" sequel reports Variety. Sheen has played a werewolf in all three "Underworld" films.
Sheen trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in Lodon where, in his second year, he won the coveted Laurence Olivier Bursary for consistently outstanding performances. While still a student at RADA, Sheen landed a starring role opposite Vanessa Redgrave in 1991's When She Dances, which marked his West End debut.
Sheen has since earned Olivier Award nominations for his performance as Mozart in Peter Hall's revival of Amadeus, Look, Back in Anger and Caligula, for which he also won a London Critics' Circle Award and a London Evening Standard Theatre Award. He has received acclaim for his performances in such plays as Romeo and Juliet. Peer Gyny and Henry V. In 1999, Sheen made his Broadway debut, reprising the title role in Amadeus.
