A-ha! Michael Ian Black does not miss an opportunity to be hilarious in the World Premiere of the one hour Stand-Up Special "Michael Ian Black: Very Famous," debuting Saturday, August 6 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on COMEDY CENTRAL.
Filmed at The Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia, Black expresses the irony in being an accomplished and well-known comedian who strangers constantly find unamusing. Being considered a famous comedian (yet simultaneously unfunny), is an irreverent backdrop for Black to recount his euphoric skydiving experience, his disdain for his children's unoriginal Halloween costumes and the inevitable awkwardness of a rectal exam.
"Michael Ian Black: Very Famous" will be released by COMEDY CENTRAL Records on CD and digital album on Tuesday, August 9. The CD and digital album are uncensored and extended.
During the first week of August, Black will host #SnarkWeek on COMEDY CENTRAL and CC.com/standup. From Monday, August 1 to Saturday, August 6, the network will air its snarkiest programs, culminating with the premiere of the biting and "Jaws"-dropping premiere of "Michael Ian Black: Very Famous," on Saturday, August 6, at 11:00 p.m. CC.com/standup will be the digital home of #SnarkWeek, featuring exclusive videos from Black, programming from the most biting comedians and a live video chat with Black.
Black regularly tours the country performing his ribald brand of humor and observations and will soon begin a national tour, titled "Black is White." Tickets for his 20-city tour go on sale today. Fans of sketch comedy know Black's work from such seminal television programs as "The State," "Viva Variety," "Stella" and "Michael and Michael Have Issues," all of which he co-created, wrote and starred. Black has also appeared in NBC's "Ed" and VH1's "I Love the..." series. Movie roles include "Wet Hot American Summer," "Take Me Home Tonight" and "The Baxter." Black is the co-writer of the 2007 comedy, "Run, Fatboy, Run" and he wrote and directed the 2006 release, "Wedding Daze." His first comedy CD, "I Am A Wonderful Man" was released in 2007.
Black is also the author of the contemporary classic, "My Custom Van (and 50 Other Mind-Blowing Essays That Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face)," the children's books "Chicken Cheeks," "The Purple Kangaroo" and "A Pig Parade Is A Terrible Idea" and the forthcoming "I'm Bored." His memoir, "You're Not Doing It Right: Tales of Marriage, Sex, Death and Other Humiliations," will be released in February, 2012. Black co-hosts the popular podcast "Mike and Tom Eat Snacks" with Tom Cavanagh. His newest project is a book collaboration with conservative writer Meghan McCain entitled "Stupid for America," to be published by DeCapo Publishing in 2012.
"Michael Ian Black: Very Famous," is executive produced and written by Black. Additional executive producers include Brian Volk-Weiss and Ted Schachter. The special is directed by Jay Chapman and produced by Jim Sharon.
