BroadwayWorld is excited to announce that two-time Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris and singing partner Kimberly Kaye, along with their band Loose Cattle, have recorded a country version of "Pony Girl," the original song written by Fun Home Tony Award-winners Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron for the musical. Cerveris has created his own arrangement of the song, which was cut during early workshops of Fun Home, turning the tune into a waltzing cowboy lullaby. The single, mastered for iTunes, is now available for pre-sale, and will receive an official release on November 23, 2015 at most online retailers.
Cerveris and Loose Cattle will celebrate "Pony Girl" with a release party and concert at Hill Country Barbecue (1123 Broadway) on Monday, November 23 at 8:00PM. A very special limited edition heavyweight vinyl version, with original cover art by Alison Bechdel, on whom Fun Home is based, will be available by January, but may be preordered at Hill Country on the night of the show. The evening will begin with a performance by New Orleans Big Easy and 'Best of the Beat' multiple award winner Paul Sanchez.
"One of my favorite moments in Fun Home is the quiet moment when Bruce lies down on the floor and sings a lullaby to small Alison, afraid at the thought her dad is going to disappear into the night in a strange city; it's tender and dark, sweet and troubled all at the same time," said Cerveris. "I didn't learn that the fragment of Pony Girl I sing in the show was from a full song that had been written but discarded from an earlier draft of the show, and we're so excited to have this special recording coming out on as a vinyl 45 in January with Alison's art and Jeanine and Lisa's endorsement. We like to imagine little Alison putting it on her Close N Play record player and going to sleep listening to it in her childhood bedroom on Maple Avenue."
Loose Cattle is Michael Cerveris (Vocals and Guitars), Kimberly Kaye (Vocals), Gabriel Caplan (Guitars), Alex Harvey (Mandolin and Guitars), Justin Smith (Fiddle), Lorenzo Wolff (Bass), and Eddy Zweiback (Drums). Loose Cattle has appeared at Lincoln Center, on Mountain Stage live from West Virginia with Arlo Guthrie, at Jazz Fest in New Orleans and on tour throughout Louisiana, confounding expectations and moving audiences all the way to the bar and back again. Their debut Live album, North of Houston, is available on iTunes, amazon.com and through your less discerning retail outlets. The new single, "Pony Girl," will be released November 23, 2015 on Low Heat Records.
