A Miami street artist, David Anasagasti, has filed a lawsuit against American Eagle Outfitters Inc. for copyright infringement. He alleges that his work appeared on the retailer's site, social media, advertising, on billboards and in in-store displays, against his permission.

The lawsuit claims, "Given that he hails from the counter-culture world of underground street artists, Mr. Anasagasti's reputation as an artist has been founded, in part, on a public perception that (he) doesn't 'sell out' to large corporate interests."

He also has broaded his lawsuit to include outside the U.S., including window displays in Tokyo, and Medellín, Colombia.

Anasagasti is seeking damages, infringement-related profits and an injunction.
