Actor Chris Hemsworth and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced the 86th Academy Awards® nominations this morning, Thursday, January 16 at a live news conference at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where hundreds of media representatives from around the world gathered.
Several notable Broadway vets were among this year's esteemed list, including Amy Adams (The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park production of INTO THE WOODS) as Best Actress in a Lead Role for American Hustle. Joining her in that category are Cate Blanchett (Uncle Vanya, A Streetcar Named Desire and Hedda Gabler) for her role in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, Dame Judi Dench (Into the Woods, Amy's View) for Philomena and Meryl Streep (soon to be seen in the upcoming film adaptation of Into the Woods) for Tracy Lett's August: Osage County.
Also receiving an Oscar nom this morning was Julia Roberts (Three Days of Rain) for Best Supporting Actress in August: Osage County. Michael Fassbender (Three Sisters, Allegience) was nominated as Best Supporting Actor for 12 Years a Slave, while theater veteran June Squibb (Gypsy, The Happy Time, Sacrilege) was honored for her Supporting Actress work in Nebraska.Videos
