New York Musical Theatre Festival is in full swing and BroadwayWorld has taken the time to sit down with some of the stars of this years NYMF musicals.
Like any great art form, musical theatre is shaped by the events and philosophies of the day. The strength and vitality of musical theatre lie in its ability to stay fresh and relevant. It was with that idea in mind, ten years ago, that the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) was created - to provide an effective platform to introduce new shows, new perspectives, and new blood into the musical theatre canon.
MEET THE STARS OF NYMF sits down with Stacia Fernandez of SINGLE WIDE
What's your favorite thing about performing as part of NYMF?
We don't start our show until July 17, but so far my favorite part is being in the rehearsal room with these amazingly talented people. We're doing some good hard work and having a lot of laughs!
Have you participated in NYMF before? If so, what's your favorite part and what drew you back to the festival?
This is my first time with NYMF. I've seen many a NYMF show however.
What other NYMF show are you most intrigued by or excited to see?
I'm excited to see Tonya & Nancy. My friend Tracy McDowall is playing Tanya. I know she's going to be amazing!
Tell us about your show/your character?
Single Wide is an amazing show about a single mother's journey to find life beyond the trailer park. Even though the show is full of fun, it has a big heart and amazing story. I play aforementioned woman's mother Amanda. She has not much of a filter, in a joyful way, and has chosen to stay in this trailer park to give her daughter the best life she can.
