New York Musical Theatre Festival is in full swing and BroadwayWorld has taken the time to sit down with some of the stars of this years NYMF musicals.
Like any great art form, musical theatre is shaped by the events and philosophies of the day. The strength and vitality of musical theatre lie in its ability to stay fresh and relevant. It was with that idea in mind, ten years ago, that the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) was created - to provide an effective platform to introduce new shows, new perspectives, and new blood into the musical theatre canon.
MEET THE STARS OF NYMF sits down with Amy Whitcomb of DEEP LOVE
Simply getting to be a part of this huge celebration of new musicals! It is a complete honor and getting to work with such incredible and professional talent is beyond my wildest dreams.
Have you participated in NYMF before? If so, what's your favorite part and what drew you back to the festival?
This is my first time with NYMF!! And I am beyond excited to be a part of it.
What other NYMF show are you most intrigued by or excited to see?
Oh my goodness, I've read up on every show that will be featured this year and I want to see them ALL! A lot of my background is in a cappella music...so I'm really looking forward to seeing "ACAPPELLA". As well as "Tonya & Nancy: The Rock Opera" - this was an epic rivalry I remember from my childhood and I can't wait to see this original spin on it!
Tell us about your show/your character?
Deep Love explores the emotional extremes we feel because of love. My character, Florence, is a bit of a co-villain in the show...and though she's extreme, she's arguably the most rational of the characters. Florence is the girl that is shamelessly provocative, jealous, and petty, yet constantly masking insecurities with her vanity and rage. No one wants to admit it, but we all can relate to her and her story. Flo is fierce. And my favorite role I've ever played.
