On the heels of its record-breaking, sold-out run at New York City Center’s Encores! earlier this year, Once Upon A Mattress will begin previews on Broadway tonight, Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The revival will celebrate its opening night on Monday, August 12, 2024, for the limited engagement through November 30, 2024, at The Hudson Theatre.

The cast is led by Sutton Foster, reprising her acclaimed performance as Winnifred the Woebegone, Drama Desk Award winner and SAG Award nominee Michael Urie as Prince Dauntless.

The company includes Two-time Tony Award nominee Brooks Ashmanskas as The Wizard, Tony Award Nominee Daniel Breaker as The Jester, Tony Award Nominee Will Chase as Sir Harry, Nikki Renée Daniels returns as Lady Larken, David Patrick Kelly returns as King Sextimus, and Ana Gasteyer as Queen Aggravain. Once Upon A Mattress ImageSutton Foster - Princess Winnifred

Sutton Foster is a two-time Tony winning actress, singer and dancer most recently seen Broadway in the highly anticipated revival of The Music Man, opposite Hugh Jackman in the fall of 2020. She previously starred in the title role of The New Group’s 50th anniversary revival of Sweet Charity, for which she earned Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk and Drama League nominations. Directed by Leigh Silverman, the show ran at the Pershing Square Signature Center in November 2016. Sutton previously starred in the title role of Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley’s Tony-nominated Broadway revival Violet, earning Tony, Drama League, Drama Desk, Outer Critic Circle and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award nominations. Sutton first performed the role of Violet in the acclaimed concert performance at City Center Encores! Off-Center in July 2013. Sutton also appeared on stage as Queenie in New York City Center Encores! Off-Center’s production of The Wild Party in July 2015. Perhaps best-known for her role as Reno Sweeney in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Anything Goes, Foster earned a 2011 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, as well as the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, the Fred and Adele Astaire, and Broadway.com's Audience Favorite Awards for her performance as a former Evangelist, now nightclub singer, aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Under the direction of Michael Mayer, Sutton starred as Millie Dillmount, a young, modern woman from Kansas who travels to New York City intending to marry for money, in the 2002 Broadway production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Originating the role, Sutton established herself as one of the greatest talents in the industry and earned a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, as well as the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards. In addition to her Tony-winning performances, Foster originated numerous notable roles, including Princess Fiona in Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire’s Shrek The Musical. Starring opposite Brian d'Arcy James, she won her second Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical and was nominated for a Tony, Drama League, and Drama Desk Awards. Foster also originated the role of Inga, the yodeling lab assistant to Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, in Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan’s parody of the horror film genre, Young Frankenstein. Her performance as Janet Van De Graaff in Casey Nicholaw’s The Drowsy Chaperone in 2006 earned her Tony Award, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, and Ovation Award nominations. Previously, Sutton took on the role of Jo, the brassy tomboy and aspiring writer, in the 2005 Broadway production of Little Women, directed by Susan H. Schulman. For this role, she earned Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle nominations. Her other theater credits include: Les Miserables, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Annie, and Grease. Foster made her Off-Broadway debut as Prudence in Paul Weitz's comedy Trust at Second Stage Theatre, also starring Zach Braff, Bobby Cannavale, and Ari Graynor. As a solo artist, Sutton has toured the country with her hit solo concert featuring songs from her debut solo CD “Wish” as well as her follow up CD “An Evening With Sutton Foster: Live at the Cafe Carlyle.” She has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Feinstein's, Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series and many others. Sutton released her third solo album, ‘Take Me to the World’, through Ghostlight Deluxe in 2018. Sutton recently concluded a sold out run at New York City’s famous Café Carlyle in the summer of 2019, and will appear as the ‘Baker’s Wife’ in the upcoming Hollywood Bowl production of Into the Woods, set to run from July 26-28, 2019. Foster currently stars as Liza in the critically-acclaimed TV Land series, “Younger.” Created by "Sex and the City's" Darren Star and styled by the iconic Patricia Field, the series centers around a 40-year-old suburban single mother, Liza, who re-invents herself as a 26-year-old in order to get a job at a publishing company. Also starring Hilary Duff, Nico Tortorella, Miriam Shor and Debi Mazar, the series returned for its sixth season in 2019. Previously, Foster starred as Michelle Simms in Amy Sherman-Palladino’s ABC Family series, “Bunheads”, about a former ballerina turned Las Vegas showgirl who gets married and winds up teaching at her new mother-in-law’s ballet school in a sleepy costal town. Sutton earned a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance. Sutton recently reunited with Sherman-Palladino in a guest starring role on the highly-anticipated Netflix revival “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”, which was released on November 25, 2016. Foster was first seen on television on “Star Search” at the young age 15, and has more recently appeared in HBO’s comedy series “Flight of the Conchords,” USA Network’s “Royal Pains,” “Law & Order: SUV” and “Elementary.” She has also made guest appearances on the well-known children series Disney’s “Johnny and the Sprites,” and PBS’s “Sesame Street.” In 2014, Sutton made her feature film debut in Phil Alden Robinson’s The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, alongside an all-star cast including Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, Robin Williams, Melissa Leo and James Earl Jones. Sutton also appeared as Kerry in James Roday’s comedy-horror film Gravy.

Michael Urie is most well known as an actor for his television work as Marc St. James on “Ugly Betty,” Gavin Sinclair on “Modern Family,” Redmond on “Younger,” roles on “Partners,” “Workaholics,” “Hot in Cleveland,” “The Good Wife,” “The Good Fight,” as well as “Shrinking” for Apple +. Most recently, he appeared in Spamalot at Kennedy Center, and he will next star in The Da Vinci Code at Ogunquit Playhouse. Movies include: Single All the Way, Swan Song, The Decoy Bride, Petunia, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Lavender, the upcoming Jersey Boys Live starring Nick Jonas. On Broadway, Michael has appeared in Douglas Lyons’ Chicken & Biscuits, Bess Wohl’s Grand Horizons, Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Off Broadway, on tour and in London, he did more than 600 performances of Jonathan Tolins’ solo play Buyer & Cellar. Chase started his acting career in Chicago, performing in regional theater productions and received three Joseph Jefferson Award nominations. He then played Chris in the 2nd National Tour of Miss Saigon. He first performed on Broadway in 1998 as the Squeegee Man and Roger understudy in Rent in the role originated by Adam Pascal; he also starred as the last Roger in the final Broadway company of Rent, which was recorded for the theatrical release entitled Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway. His additional Broadway credits include Miss Saigon (with the original star Lea Salonga playing Kim to close the Broadway production); The Full Monty, as Jerry Lukowski replacement (2001); Lennon (2005); Aida (Radames replacement, 2003–04), another role originated by Pascal; and Tony in Billy Elliot the Musical. He was also in A Little Princess the Musical as Captain Crewe. In 2005, he played Neville Craven in the 2005 World AIDS Day The Secret Garden concert. In 2006, he starred in High Fidelity on Broadway, and starred as Valentin in Kiss of the Spider Woman at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, for which he received a nomination for the 2009 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actor. Chase played the character Byron Marks on the September 27, 2017 season opening of Law and Order: SVU titled “Gone Fishin”. He played Neil Hargrove in the second season of the American supernatural horror-science fiction web television series, Stranger Things, which premiered on Netflix on October 27, 2017, and appears in HBO's drama Sharp Objects as Bob Nash. Nikki is an acclaimed Broadway actress and concert soloist. She recently starred as Angelica Schuyler in the Chicago company of Hamilton, and as Jenny in the Tony Award Winning Broadway revival of Company. Her other Broadway credits includeThe Book of Mormon (Nabulungi), The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess (Clara) LesMisérables (Fantine), Anything Goes, Promises Promises and Lestat. She recently played Martha Jefferson in 1776 at Encores, and Rose Lennox inThe Secret Garden at David Geffen Hall. She made her New York City Opera debut as Clara inPorgy and Bess. Nikki’s regional credits include Emmie in Caroline or Change at the Guthrie; Sarah inRagtime at North Shore Music Theater; Belle in Beauty and the Beast at Sacramento Music Circus and Hope in Anything Goes at Williamstown Theater Festival. Gasteyer developed comedy experience with the Los Angeles improv – sketch comedy group The Groundlings. She played small roles on Seinfeld (as a doomed customer of The Soup Nazi), as well as on the shows Party of Five, Frasier, Hope & Gloria and NYPD Blue. In 1996, Gasteyer joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. Among her most popular characters were high school music teacher Bobbie Mohan-Culp, National Public Radio Delicious Dish host Margaret Jo McCullen, Lilith Festival feminist singer Cinder Calhoun, and her impressions of Martha Stewart and Celine Dion. In 2000, she and Chris Parnell auditioned to succeed Colin Quinn as co-anchors of the news parody segment Weekend Update, but the positions ultimately went to Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon. After six seasons, Gasteyer left SNL in 2002. Subsequently, she appeared in various television programs, films and stage productions. In 2004, Gasteyer played the mother of the main character Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) in the feature film Mean Girls, written by SNL castmate Tina Fey. The film also featured other former SNL castmates, including Fey, Tim Meadows, and Amy Poehler. She also appeared in the 2005 Showtime movie musical Reefer Madness as Mae, the doomed girlfriend of Jack and owner of the Reefer Den. Gasteyer starred in a revival of The Threepenny Opera on Broadway as Mrs. Peachum, along with Jim Dale, Alan Cumming, and Cyndi Lauper. The production ran from March 24 through June 25, 2006. On June 24, 2005, Gasteyer originated the role of Elphaba in the Chicago sit-down production of the musical Wicked. The production opened July 13, 2005. Gasteyer was nominated for a Jefferson Award for her performance. She played her final performance on January 22, 2006, replaced by her standby Kristy Cates. She later reprised the role in the Broadway production from October 10, 2006, through January 7, 2007. On April 12, 2007, the media announced that Gasteyer had joined the cast of the then new musical, Writing Arthur, for the 2007 New Works Festival for TheatreWorks in California, which ran from April 14 to April 22. Gasteyer performed in Chicago in the Stephen Sondheim musical Passion at Chicago Shakespeare Theater from October 2, 2007 to November 11, 2007. She was originally cast as Gloria in the Encores! Summer Series production of Damn Yankees, but due to injury during rehearsals, she was replaced by Megan Lawrence. Gasteyer took part in the reading of the Broadway musical version of "The First Wives Club." She starred as Kitty Dean in the Broadway play, The Royal Family which began performances at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on September 15, 2009 and officially opened on October 8, 2009. The show concluded its run on December 13, 2009. Gasteyer also starred as Frisco Kate Fothergill in the City Centers Encores! production of Girl Crazy, running from November 19 to November 22, 2009. She returned to Saturday Night Live for a special Mother's Day episode on May 8, 2010, and for another Mother's Day episode on May 11, 2012. Gasteyer appeared in season eight of Curb Your Enthusiasm as Larry David's girlfriend. From 2011 to 2014, Gasteyer co-starred as Sheila Shay on the ABC comedy series Suburgatory, and as of March 2013, she was a spokeswoman for the Weight Watchers diet plan. Other television credits include Loot, American Auto, A Christmas Story Live!, Grease Live!, Lady Dynamite, and The Goldbergs. In 2014, taking advantage of her training as a singer, Gasteyer recorded and released I'm Hip, an album of jazz standards. "One Mint Julep" was one of the selections it included.
