Meatpacking Business Improvement District (BID) is partnering with the Lower East Side Ecology Center, to offer a free e-waste clean-out opportunity. Grab your old electronics, pack that pile of batteries, and join in on the recycling party to do right by the City and the environment: recycle!
By always keeping up with the newest and latest gadgets, New Yorkers are constantly buying new electronics for personal and professional use. When it's time to throw away old computers, monitors, printers and more, it can be difficult for us city dwellers given regular disposal is illegal and recycling is not easily accessible. There's a reason you have that dusty pile of electronics sitting in your apartment!
Acceptable items for this e-waste recycling event include:
· Computers (any and all parts)
· Printers/scanners
· Phones
· TVs
· Phones
· Fax machines
· Keyboards
· Computer mouse(s)
· Cables
· VCRs/DVD players
· Audio/visual equipment
· Cell phones
· PDAs
· Speakers
· Anything with an electronic component
It's illegal to throw electronics in the trash. Additionally, the LES Ecology Center does unique things with your old stuff, too: like running a used electronics store and a prop library for TV, film, and Theater Productions. Your old PC could very well end up in a movie or TV show down the road! Last year's collection of e-waste amounted to 7,000 pounds. This event is made possible due to the support of Council Member Corey Johnson.
The event will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm on the southwest corner of West 14th Street and Eighth Avenue, Between 8th and 9th Avenues, New York, NY 10011.
