A memorial celebrating the life and career of actress Maureen Stapleton, who died this past March 13th, will take place on Monday, September 18th at 1:00 pm (doors open at 12:30), according to Scott Barnes, producer of the event.
Stapleton, who made her Broadway debut in 1946 in
The Playboy of the Western World, went on to star in
The Rose Tattoo (Tony Award),
Orpheus Descending, The Glass Menagerie, The Gingerbread Lady (Tony and Drama Desk Awards),
Plaza Suite, and
The Little Foxes, among others.

Lonelyhearts, The Fugitive Kind, Bye Bye, Birdie, "Among the Paths to Eden" (Emmy),
Airport, "Queen of the Stardust Ballroom," (Oscar for Best Supporting Actress),
Reds and
Cocoon.Stapleton is survived by two children, Daniel Allentuck and Katharine Bambery, and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Max Bambery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS or The Actors' Fund of America
