OUT Magazine continued their roll-out of the coveted OUT100 today with the additions of newlyweds Thomas Roberts & Patrick Abner, Gayby actor Matthew Wilkas, and a number of musicians – including Amanda Palmer, Perfume Genius, Ed Droeste, Jana Hunter, Leif, Light Asylum and John O'Regan of Diamond Rings.
As the MSNBC daytime anchor, Thomas Roberts has certainly upped his profile during this election year. Although he said he wanted to get married in his hometown of Baltimore, he settled for a rooftop in Manhattan when he wed Patrick Abner, an HIV community liaison for pharmaceutical company Merck. "I never imaged in a million years that I would be on a stage kissing my male partner, spouse – husband, Thomas is saying – in front of my father," Abner said during the ceremony. "And to be able to do that and have not just my father but my whole family be proud of me? That's something special."
Matthew Wilkas spent most of his evenings this year on stage playing Flash Thompson in the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. But it was his beguiling, all-to-relatable performance in Johnathan Lisecki's festval favorite Gayby, in which he starred as a heartbroken gay comic book artist who agrees to conceive a child with his best hetero girlfriend, that left us decidedly smitten.
OUT, through its partnership with Buick, will host the OUT100 Presented By Buick on Thursday, November 29, at MILK Studios in New York City. This marks the third consecutive year that Buick will be the presenting sponsor of the OUT100 program, which extends across the print and online versions as well as its annual gala.
OUT has begun its roll-out of the OUT100, a panorama of the most compelling people of the year. To learn more about the OUT100 and to view their portraits by photographer M. Sharkey, please log on to www.out.com/OUT100.
