Former Hairspray star Matt Morrison has been cast in the upcoming premiere of Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas's The Light in the Piazza as Fabrizio. The show will play Lincoln Center Theater's Vivian Beaymont beginning March 17 for an April 18 opening.

Previously announced for the cast have been Michael Berresse, Beau Gravitte, Victoria Clark, Kelli O'Hara, Sarah Uriarte Berry and Patti Cohenour.

On his casting in the show, Matt told BroadwayWorld that "I'm really looking forwad to this production, because it's unlike anything that anyone's seen me do before. My character speaks in broken English, so I'm in the midst of voice lessons and Italian lessons for the show. I'm ready for the challenge!"

Matt's previous Broadway credits include originating the role of Link Larkin in Hairspray, along with roles in Footlose, and The Rocky Horror Show.

The Light in the Piazza is based on a 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer and has recently had successful out of town runs in Chicago at the Goodman Theatre, and in Seattle at the Intiman Theatre. The story is set in the summer of 1953 and tells the story of a mother and daughter traveling through Italy, the daughter's romance with a handsome, high-spirited Florentine, and the mother's determined efforts to keep the two apart.
