According to Deadline, Matt Boomer has signed on to lead HBO's upcoming biopic following legendary Hollywood star Montgomery Clift.

The project was previously announced in 2013, with Bomer attached. Christopher Lovick penned the original script, which was to be directed by Larry Moss. For this incarnation, LOVE IS STRANGE's Ira Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias have been tapped to rewrite Lovick's script.

Per Deadline:

"At his prime, Clift rivaled Marlon Brando and James Dean as Hollywood's biggest male star and, along with them, was one of the first method actors in Hollywood. Clift also was the first Hollywood actor to refuse to sign a studio contract, choosing independency instead. He graduated from stage roles to screen success in films that includes A Place In The Sun and From Here To Eternity. His matinee idol good looks were destroyed by a devastating car accident that left him with a broken nose and partially paralyzed face. Though he continued to make movies, the accident haunted him until his death, even though he received an Oscar nomination, his fourth, for one of his last performances in Judgment At Nuremberg."

Known to television viewers the world over as White Collar's Neal Caffrey, Bomer won a Critics' Choice Best Supporting Actor award for his portrayal of Felix Turner in HBO's critically acclaimed screen adaptation of The Normal Heart. Based on the Tony Award winning Larry Kramer play about the AIDS epidemic in New York in the 1980's, the movie also starred Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo and Jim Parsons, and was directed by Ryan Murphy.

Bomer's movie credits include Flightplan, The Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Space Station 76, andSteven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, alongside Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum. On television, he has been seen in Traveler, the FOX series Tru Calling, and the NBC series Chuck as well as the FOX series Glee and NBC's The New Normal.

On Stage, he was recently seen in the Broadway and Los Angeles readings of Dustin Lance Black's play, 8, where he was joined by such acting luminaries as Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John C. Reillyand Ellen Barkin.
