Actress, director and digital producer Maryam Myika Day is pleased to announce The Commercial Actor's BLACK BOOK - the first e-book of its kind targeted to actors, offering readers an inside track to the world of the commercial advertising hiring process.
With contributors from over 30 agencies combined, "The Commercial Actor's BLACK BOOK" provides hands-on knowledge, career advice and tips culled from top advertising executives who are directly involved with castings to help actors make the right choices in the audition room.
"Know the Agency - Book the Job": Excerpt from The Commercial Actor's BLACK BOOK
"By the time I landed my 5th producer job at Saatchi & Saatchi LA another revelation occurred. There is value in listening to direction. No matter how many commercial acting classes one takes, or what commercial casting director brings you into the audition, the team behind the table wants to know you can follow instructions. Can you keep a clear mind and not get distracted in the room? If you can't do this in the audition, you certainly cannot do it on set."
"My colleagues and I would always comment on how actors who pay attention, work more than those actors who were more concerned about how well they looked through the camera lens. Yes, we see you checking yourself out and we (producers) think it means you are easily distracted. The agency producer and creatives will lose their patience with someone who doesn't listen in the audition room. Distractions can also occur when other actors have displaced nervous energy that they feel compelled to share with you prior to entering going into the audition room."
"Don't be a Chatty Charlie. Stay focused in the waiting room and keep that focus throughout the audition process. Lesson two: don't give the creative team or the casting director a reason to help you lose the job."
