Writer, actress and comedienne Mary Dimino is a FringeNYC Outstanding Solo Show Award Winner for her critically acclaimed solo hit Scared Skinny. This September 30th, United Solo presents Mary Dimino in her follow up hit one woman show Big Dummy, me and my old man written by and starring MAC Award winning comedian Mary Dimino at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row (42nd Street) as part of the 5th Annual United Solo Festival. Christine Renee Miller directs.
Dimino's critically acclaimed hit Big Dummy sold out her United Solo opening night performance within 12 hours of ticket sales going live. Fortunately, for the many New York theatre-goers who were locked out, there is now another chance to snag a ticket this award-winning playwright's popular one woman show.
Dimino's additional performance is now scheduled for Sunday Sunday Oct 12th at 7:30PM. Tickets are now available on telecharge.
Dimino's debut of Big Dummy had a celebrated, sold out run in the 2013 New York International Fringe Festival.
Shortly after Big Dummy's close in FringeNYC, Dimino began working with Kim Blacklock in coordination with Governor Andrew Cuomo's office and H.G. Fairfield Arts Center for The Environment, bringing the arts and narrative writing workshops into New York middle schools statewide.
This year, United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, celebrates its fifth anniversary season and its dynamic expansion in scope and popularity. Located at Theatre Row, in the heart of the New York City theatre district on 42nd Street, the Festival has grown five times since its inaugural year; it began as a two-week event and will span over ten weeks in 2014.
A 2010 MAC Award winner for Outstanding Female Comedian, Mary also won the 2008 Gracie Allen Award for the PBS documentary Fat, What No One is Telling You and was featured on NBC's Today Show. Her other television appearances include television shows such as the new series Laughs on FOX, HBO's Chris Rock Show, Comedy Central, VH-1, New York Undercover and in sketches on David Letterman and Conan' OBrien. She was the studio warm up act for the Comedy Central series The Graham Norton Effect, along with ABC's Les Brown Show. Her book, Scared Skinny No More, based on her first solo show, was released in April by Sunbury Press. Mary Dimino's book debuted at #10 on their bestseller list for March.
Dimino is a familiar face on TV and has been seen in dozens of national commercials. A regular on the national comedy circuit, she has performed with The Ladies of Laughter at Caesar's Palace, The Improv and The World Famous Laugh Factory opening for Janeane Garafolo on Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater. She is currently a member of the all female hit comedy troupe The Italian Chicks touring internationally. Off- Broadway appearances include Tony and Tina's Wedding and the musical, Surprise. Currently she is a comedy contributor for the Huffington Post.
The daughter of poor factory worker father whose job was to put the crunchies in Carvel Ice Cream cakes, Mary idolized her dad until one day she realized he is "not like everybody else." She later realizes dad is brilliant, as is. Mary's journey from college student to couch potato to glorified assistant clothing shop manager, and finally successful comedienne is chronicled in this hilarious and moving story inspired by her "big dummy" dad, whose endearing simplicity she finally interpreted to be a cross between Forest Gump and Aristotle. She chronicles the touching and hilarious journey behind both her and her father's amazing fulfillment of their destinies.
Christine Renee Miller directed Mary Dimino's award winning Fringe production, Scared Skinny.
