Mark Ruffalo, of HBO's THE NORMAL HEART, BEGIN AGAIN with Keira Knightley, THE AVENGERS, the upcoming film SPOTLIGHT and more, recently spoke with Deadline about a whole slew of subjects, including, of course, a potential return to the stage.
Ruffalo said he not only wants to see Broadway's THIS IS OUR YOUTH as soon as he can, but that he also has a play in the wings.
"I'm dying to come back," Ruffalo told Deadline. "I would love to come back, and I actually read a beautiful new play by Timothy McNeil that I am going to start just seeing if there's some interest in it. It's a really mature, very literary piece that is very powerful and I think very timely. It's a hell of a piece of theater. And you know, in the great tradition of the theater, I refuse to be any one thing. Or any one person."
Ruffalo last appeared on Broadway in 2006's Awake and Sing!, for which he was nominated for a Tony and won a Drama Desk Award.
He was nominated for a 2014 Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for HBO's THE NORMAL HEART. The film garnered 16 nominations in all. The actor will next be seen on the big screen in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and NOW YOU SEE ME 2. Among his recent movie credits are FOXCATCHER, NOW YOU SEE ME, IRON MAN 3 and more. Ruffalo was also nominated for an Oscar for 2010's The Kids Are All Right.
