Parade Magazine reports that this week, show choirs from around the country will have the opportunity to do battle in a real life GLEE- inspired competition called Finale. Beginning Friday April 8, 2,200 high schoolers will arrive in New York City to compete for a trophy and a $10,000 cash prize.
According to Parade, The Finale creators are hoping to give the 28 participating groups a true New York experience. Before the competition even begins, competitors will attend singing and dancing workshops and see a Broadway show. The competition will be held at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom with teams performing in front of a 14-judge panel. They will be scored on such traditional show-choir elements as singing, choreography and costumes. Host Mario Lopez will announce the winning group on Saturday night.
The final round will kick off Saturday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. after performances by American Idol finalist Anwar Robinson and America's Best Dance Crew winners "We Are Heroes." Lopez will announce the winners of the solo and mixed performances at 11:30 p.m.
