Maire Claire is giving one reader the chance to dance in Sweet Charity, starring Christina Applegate.

The winner of the Dance on Broadway contest will be flown to New York City, stay three nights in a great hotel and will be given dance lessons by the show's choreographer, Wayne Cilento, before his or her stage debut.

"To enter, send the producers a 30-second videotape of yourself dancing. They'll put the top entries on their Website and let America choose the winner," states the show's website. It also mentions a special offer that might be useful to those planning to enter the contest:
"In the month of October, New York Sports Club will offer exercise classes inspired by Sweet Charity. These workouts are hip-shaking dance classes set to the music of such hits as 'Big Spender' and 'The Rhythm of Life.'"

Sweet Charity, starring Emmy Award winner Christina Applegate as Charity and Tony Award winner Denis O'Hare as Oscar, performs at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 W. 45th St). The show is directed by Tony Award-winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago) and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento (The Who's Tommy, Wicked).  Sweet Charity also stars Janine LaManna as Nickie, Kearran Giovanni as Helene, Wayne Knight as Herman and Paul Schoeffler as Vittorio.

With book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and based on an original screenplay by Federico Fellini, Tullio Pinelli and Ennio Flaiano, Sweet Charity is a "funny, poignant and tender look at the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine (Applegate), a dance-hall hostess who always gives her heart - and her earnings - to the wrong man," according to production notes.

Sweet Charity originally opened at the Palace Theatre on January 29th, 1966 in a production that was staged by the legendary Bob Fosse and starred the equally renowned Gwen Verdon in the title role; it ran for 608 performances.
