Tony-winning Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman will receive the ASCAP Henry Mancini Award for Career Achievement at the 22nd Annual ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards. The event, which takes place April 17, 2007 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, honors the industry's top film and television music composers.
"Marc is a multi-talented composer and songwriter with a career that spans television, feature films and, of course, his great success on Broadway," states ASCAP President
Marilyn Bergman in the press notes. "We are very proud to celebrate his achievements by honoring him with ASCAP's Henry Mancini Award."
Shaiman has previously received five Oscar nominations, including Best Score for
The American President,
The First Wives Club, and
Patch Adams; and Best Original Song for "A Wink and a Smile" from
Sleepless in Seattle and "Blame Canada" from
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. He won an Emmy in 1992 for co-writing
Billy Crystal's "Oscar Medleys" for the 64th Annual Academy Awards and has been nominated for his work on "Saturday Night Live." The Broadway Musical
Hairspray earned him a Tony and a Grammy, and he is currently working on a film version. His other film credits include
