Vineyard Theatre will produce a developmental lab of the newly imagined musical ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER - with music by Burton Lane, lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, a new book by Peter Parnell based on the original book by Alan Jay Lerner, and reconceived and directed by Michael Mayer - July 25 to July 30 at Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street), it has been announced by Vineyard Theatre artistic directors Douglas Aibel and Sarah Stern.
The ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER lab is only open to Vineyard Theatre members. (Tickets are not on sale to the general public.)
ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER is the beguiling and romantic musical, with songs by the legendary Alan Jay Lerner (MY FAIR LADY, CAMELOT) and Burton Lane (FINIAN'S RAINBOW), which has been completely reimagined in this new incarnation, as reconceived and directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer with a new book by Peter Parnell (QED, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES). Lerner and Lane's enchanting score includes such songs as "Come Back to Me", "What Did I Have That I Don't Have?", "Hurry! It's Lovely Up Here" and "On A Clear Day."
The cast for The Vineyard's developmental lab of ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER is Heather Ayers, Steven Booth, Benjamin Eakley, Drew Gehling, KendAl Hartse, Marc Kudisch, Paul O'Brien, Kerry O'Malley, Jessie Mueller, Zachary Prince, Sarah Stiles, David Turner, Alysha Umphress and Lori Wilner.
The role of Dr. Mark Bruckner is being played by Marc Kudisch for The Vineyard Lab only. As previously announced, Harry Connick, Jr. is playing the role on Broadway but was unable to participate in the lab due to prior scheduling conflicts.
Following a workshop at The Vineyard in the fall of 2009, ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER received a series of concert readings as part of New York Stage and Film and Vassar's Powerhouse Theater season in the summer of 2010.
The Vineyard launched its Developmental Lab Program in 1991 in order to provide artists with a safe and creative way to develop new works of theatre. Labs are small in scale and perform for a limited run that is closed to press. Every lab at The Vineyard is tailored to the needs of the developmental process of the piece; in the case of ON A CLEAR DAY, the format will be a concert presentation and due to the limited number of performances, will be open to current Vineyard Theatre members only.
