Push Productions, Inc. will present Peter Weiss' Marat/Sade from June 1st to July 1st at the Access Theatre Gallery Space (380 West Broadway, 4th Floor). The production is directed by Michael Kimmel. Opening night is set for June 3rd.

The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by The Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under The Direction of The Marquis De Sade, or Marat/Sade, as the play is more commonly known, "concerns the performance of a play by inmates of an early 1800s insane asylum, with script and direction by the infamous Marquis de Sade. The story of the play concerns the assassination of the revolutionary Marat by Charlotte Corday, but the play itself becomes a debate between various characters, all played by mentally-ill inmates of the asylum. The debate is further fueled by their insanity, unpredictability as performers and the staff's reactions to both their behavior and the often subversive nature of the script they play out," state press notes.

Marat/Sade will feature musical composition by Scott O'Brien, choreography by Rachel Klein, sets and lighting by Ben Kato, costume design by Jessica Gaffney and assistant direction and dramaturgy by Tara Good.
