Stephanie C. Lyons-Keeley and Wayne J. Keeley of Someday Productions LLC have accepted an invitation to become resident playwrights at Manhattan Repertory Theatre (MRT) in New York City. After writing, producing, and directing three short plays performed in four one-act play series, MRT's artistic director, Ken Wolf, extended the offer to the couple.
While there is no universal definition for a playwright- or artist-in-residence, in general terms this role allows artists to have a place to create, to explore, and to grow their talents in a supportive atmosphere; in this case, in the theatre. Nestled in the heart of Manhattan's theater district, MRT provides such an environment. As resident playwrights, Lyons-Keeley and Keeley also will have the opportunity to stage two of their original plays per year.
Lyons-Keeley and Keeley participated in MRT's Summer and Fall One-Act Play Competitions where they staged their plays Commuters and Heaven Sent, respectively. They were selected as finalists in both competitions, each time against 29 other plays; with Heaven Sent they ultimately went on to win first place. In addition, two of their works were featured in MRT's 10th Anniversary Celebration: Heaven Sent and Life As She Knows It.
Lyons-Keeley and Keeley, who currently hail from Danbury, CT, just a stone's throw from New York City, were married October 3, 2015. Together they have penned numerous plays and other entertainment works. They optioned one of their original screenplays with indie director Austin Chick and producer Zachery Bryan of Home Improvement fame. Their production company, Someday Productions LLC, also picked up options to produce screen adaptations of four thriller novels written by author Ray Hoy. Additionally, Lyons-Keeley and Keeley are bloggers who post reviews of art and entertainment as well as conduct celebrity interviews on their website "Pillow Talking."
Lyons-Keeley and Keeley began Someday Productions LLC (www.somedayprods.com) as "A company dedicated to the creation of new and important projects for all genres in the entertainment industry." Their myriad dually-voiced works include those for television, film, theatre, and books and are in various stages of development. Their Pillow Talking blog (www.somedayprods.com/talking) sheds light on the he-said/she-saids of all aspects of the entertainment industry.
