Man Of La Mancha To Run At Engeman In Northport

After completing it's first season, The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport is proud to announce the production of the Tony Award Winning Musical MAN OF LA MANCHA, running June 26 - August 3, 2008. The show kicks of the John W. Engeman Theater at Northport's Second Season after finishing off its First Season with their critically acclaimed production of OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY.  MAN OF LA MANCHAis an Original Play by Dale Wasserman based upon his award-winning play for television titled I, DON QUIXOTE.  The musical tells the poignant story of a dying old man who finds himself both a prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition and his own mind.  In his dreams, Cervantes is the knight-errant Don Quixote, accompanied by his servant Sancho. The tale is a romantic and noble journey of a knight who sets out to right all wrongs and win the heart of a good woman as he duels windmills along the way.  With music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, Man of La Mancha is the classic comic tragedy of man's struggle against all odds to dream "The Impossible Dream."

MAN OF LA MANCHA will play the following performance schedule: Thursdays at 8:00 p.m., Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

IN ADDITION, there will be matinees on the following days:  Saturday July 5 at 3:00 pm, Saturday July 19 at 3:00 pm, and Saturday August 2 at 3:00 pm.

ALSO, there will be performances on Sunday July 13 and July 27 at 7:00 pm.

 MAN OF LA MANCHA is directed by Peter Flynn whose credits include numerous Broadway concerts for the Actors' Fund, the critically acclaimed one-man show Rhapsody in Seth at the Actors' Playhouse starring former John W. Engeman Theater cast member Seth Rudetsky (LEND ME A TENOR), Man of LaMancha for the Maltz Jupiter Theater where he received Carbonell Awards for best director and best musical, and a workshop production of his own musical, LILY, based on Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth, written with composer/lyricist Brooks Ashmanskas, at the Huntington Theater in Boston. Peter is also the new Artistic Director of the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY.  The choreographer is Devanand Janki, who most recently directed Annie,the Concert starring Andrea McArdle and Rosie O'Donnell for R Family Cruises.  Hedirected the Off- Broadway hit Zanna, Don't!, Winner of the Lortel, Callaway & GLAAD Media Awards.He conceived and directed the 25th anniversary original cast reunion of A Chorus Line at the Palace Theatre, and choreographed Man of La Mancha at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. As a performer Dev has appeared on Broadway in Miss Saigon, Cats, The King & I, Side Show and tours of A Chorus Line and West Side Story.  The musical director is Donny Jones, who has played on Broadway in the pits of Flower Drum Song and Wicked, as well as having musically directed numerous shows including JEKYLL & HYDE and A WONDERFUL LIFE for the John W. Engeman Theater at Northport.

The Design Team includes Michael Bottari & Ronald Case (Set and Costume Designers), who have been a design team for over thirty-eight years, having designed both sets and costumes for Broadway.   Broadway designs include Rodgers & Hammerstein's much loved STATE FAIR and PRINCE OF CENTRAL PARK.   Additionally, they recently created original set and costume designs for the new South African production of HAIRSPRAY, and they were nominated for the 2008 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards and won theLucille Lortel Award for costume design for DIE MOMMIE DIE.Jeff Croiter (Lighting Designer) who designed Kiki & Herb Alive on Broadway and concerts at the New Amsterdam Theater including Chess, Hair, and On The 20th Century.Scott Stauffer (Sound Designer) whose Broadway credits include The Rivals, Contact, Marie Christine, Twelfth Night, Jekyll & Hyde, and Children And Art-Steven Sondheims 75th birthday celebration and the Off-Broadway production of Seth's Broadway 101 starring Seth Rudetsky.Mark Adam Rampmeyer (Hair and Wig Designer) most recently designed Happy Days for both Papermill and Goodspeed, he also worked with Cybill Shepherd on her one woman production of CURVY WIDOW for the Post Street Theatre in San Francisco, and has also designed several John W. Engeman Theater productions including LEND ME A TENOR and OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY. The Casting Director is Stephen DeAngelis, who is on staff at Grey Worldwide and most recently cast the new Playhouse Disney series Johnny and the Sprites.

The cast of MAN OF LA MANCHA features David McDonald (Don Quixote) who has performed on Broadway in MAMMA MIA (Sam Carmichael), Les Miserables (Grantaire), and SIDE SHOW (Terry Connor), he was also in the original Off-Broadway cast of FORBIDDEN BROADWAY. David has also appeared on ABC's ALL MY CHILDREN for the past 8 years as Barney Paulsen; Carey Brown (Aldonza) who appeared in CANDIDE at the NYC Opera, in MASTER CLASS (Maltz Jupiter Theater), Once On This Island (Bay Street Theatre & Sacramento Music Circus), and in THE SOUND OF MUSIC at New Jersey's acclaimed Paper Mill Playhouse; Richard Ruiz (Sancho Panza) who played Antonio in the Off-Broadway production of TWO GENTLEMEN FROM VERONA THE MUSICAL at the Public Theater, and has performed in the National Tours of URINETOWN (Officer Barrel), JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (King Herod), MAN OF LA MANCHA (Sancho Panza), and as Herman in Sweet Charity; Erick Devine (Captain/Padre) who appeared on Broadway in Ragtime, Sid Caesar & Co., Cats, Seussical and such National Tours as BIG RIVER, RAGTIME, and ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. Kenneth Cavett (Governor / Innkeeper) whose credits include 1776 (Goodspeed), Twelfth Night (Princeton Repertory), EVITA (Houston TUTS), and was a founding member of The Cactus Theatre in Chicago with featured roles in Golden Boy, Hurlyburly, and Waiting For Lefty. Rob Gallagher (Duke/Carrasco) is the Artistic Director of Best of Broadway Concerts, a company that brings experienced Broadway talent to perform in venues across Long Island. Acting credits include Javert in Les Miserables on Broadway, and Off Broadway in Forbidden Broadway and Reefer Madness. Rob has also appeared on ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

The cast will also feature Denise Estrada (Antonia), Margarita Martinez (Maria / Housekeeper), Mario Martinez (Tenorio), Alex Michaels (Jose), Dante Sciarra (Pedro), Nandita Shenoy (Fermina), Jason Veasey (Anselmo), and David Villela (Juan / Barber).
