On Tuesday, October 29 2013, VIEUX FARKA TOURE will perform at Desert Blues at Elebash Hall - 365 Fifth Ave between 34 and 35 Street, NYC.

Vieux Farka Touré, son of the legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Toure, has emerged as the modern standard bearer of the African blues tradition. His raw, energized music pays tribute to a venerated past while looking toward a brighter future both for his homeland and his traditions. Vieux's haunting vocals and crisp playing (Rolling Stone Magazine calls his performance "dazzlingly fluid... fiery") are a constant reminder to the world of the beauty and culture of Mali. Tonight, Vieux (on guitar and vocals) will be accompanied by Tim Keiper (drums), Madou Sidibe (bass) and Moussa Diabate (ngoni and guitar). Toure's newest album, Mon Pays, has just been released on the Modiba label.

The show is funded in part by The Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, doors open at 5pm. Tickets are $25 / $20 Graduate Center Members and NYC Students.
