Albert Einstein helps a 12-year old girl navigate middle school and mean girls in DEAR ALBERT EINSTEIN, a new musical from the critically acclaimed Making Books Sing.

Set in 1954, DEAR ALBERT EINSTEIN tells the story of Susan, a 12-year-old star math student who, when starting junior high, struggles between the desire to be herself and the pressure to be like all of the other girls in her class. Her admiration for Einstein, who periodically pops up in her imagination, complicates and eventually helps her along her journey. The musical combines early rock-n-roll, swing, and classical music.

"Women and girls still face a lot of discouragement in the fields of math and science, so we're excited to tell a story about a girl who loves those subjects, and ultimately embraces them," says Emma Halpern, Making Books Sing Co-Artistic Director.

DEAR ALBERT EINSTEIN will feature Kelly Karcher (The Wizard of Oz NETworks Tour), Michael Lorz (Swiss Family Robinson at NYMF), Evan Teich (The Hungry Hungry Games), Angela Travino (South Pacific National Tour) and Melissa Waterbury (Robin Hood: A New Rock Musical at NYMF).

DEAR ALBERT EINSTEIN creative team includes bookwriter/composer Russ Kaplan (Primary Stages's In Transit) and bookwriter/lyricist Sara Wordsworth (Primary Stages's In Transit), director Josh Penzell (Track 12), music director Tim Rosser (Making Books Sing's The Butterfly), set designer Erica Hemminger (Prospect Theater's Ilyria) , costume designer Leslie Bernstein (Law and Order, EST Marathon), and lighting designer Ariel J. Benjamin (CNN).

Making Books Sing promotes children's literacy and social development through professional theater productions and arts-in-education programs. Transcending all of their efforts is a collective belief in the transformative power of the arts to inspire learning, strengthen families, improve schools and communities, and enrich young people's lives.
