Tony Award-winner John Mahoney will star in Romance, one of the plays to be performed at The Goodman Theatre's David Mamet Festival in Chicago.  The event will run from March 4th through April 23rd, 2006.

Romance is one of two Mamet works that will be presented on the Goodman's mainstage; A Life in the Theatre is the other.  Romance is Mamet's most recent work; the play is a courtroom comedy that was penned in 2005.  Mahoney plays the Judge.  A Life in the Theatre, from 1977, finds aging actor Robert tutoring the younger John abou art and life.  Robert Falls directs the latter play.

Also included in the David Mamet Festival will be The Revenge of the Space Pandas or Binky Rudich and the Two-Speed Clock, a children's play; it will be performed on Saturday mornings from March 25th through April 22nd, while nine of Mamet's one-acts will be seen (in three groupings) from April 8th through 23rd.

The versatile Mamet is best-known for writing plays where aggressive characters verbally battle each other through rapid-fire dialogue.  His other works include the recently-revived Glengarry Glen Ross, The Old Neighborhood, Speed-the-Plow, American Buffalo, Oleanna and Boston Marriage.  His film credits include directing and writing the screenplays of Spartan, Heist, State and Main and others.

Mahoney is a Tony Award-winner for his performance in The House of Blue Leaves.  Famous to TV audiences for his role on TV's "Frasier," Mahoney is a theatre veteran who has acted at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre and at the Goodman in Mamet's adaptation of Uncle Vanya.
